On Tuesday, November 2nd, ACE Electric, AGC Georgia, Choate Construction & West Construction hosted the first annual “Skills Challenge” in Statesboro at theBulloch County Agricultural Complex. Students from around the region participated in 7 different, hands-on competitions:
Carpentry (Trade Sponsor: Guerry Lumber & West Construction)
Welding (Trade Sponsor: MacAljon)
Plumbing (Trade Sponsor: Mock Plumbing)
Electrical (Trade Sponsor: ACE Electric)
Masonry (Trade Sponsor: Cornerstone Masonry Group)
Tile Setting (Dan J. Sheehan Company)
Blueprint Reading (Choate Construction)
With over 150+ students competing, the talent in attendance was not only impressive but encouraged excitement for the future workforce in the built environment. As the first annual event in our area, the Skills Challenge leaders are excited about exponentially growing the number of students who can now learn about careers in construction and show off their skills. If you are interested in supporting in 2022, below are the opportunities:
Volunteer company representatives to serve as judges for each of the skills competitions
Offer hands-on activities for students to participate in to get more familiar with specific trades
Host an exhibit table for students to learn more from you and your team and what career paths your firm offers
Serve as a sponsor to one or more of the Skills Challenge
